Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant - COTA (1.0)

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our dynamic rehabilitation team in an acute hospital setting. The COTA will work closely with occupational therapists to provide high-quality care and support to patients across various departments, including General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, and Behavioral Health. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to patient-centered care and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Education Qualifications:

  • Education as required for licensure

Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapy Assistant delivers services in alignment with established practice guidelines. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist occupational therapists in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans for patients with diverse needs.
  • Provide direct patient care, including therapeutic activities, exercises, and functional tasks to facilitate the rehabilitation process.
  • Monitor patient progress and document outcomes in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and effective communication regarding patient needs and progress.
  • Educate patients and their families about treatment plans, goals, and strategies for continued wellness post-discharge.
  • Maintain a safe and organized treatment environment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, staff development, and continuing education opportunities to enhance professional growth.

Schedule: Full time, day shift, with one weekend shift required per month.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

  • Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) from an accredited program.
  • State licensure or eligibility for licensure as a COTA.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in an acute hospital setting preferred, particularly in areas such as general medicine, surgery, orthopedics, cardiology, oncology, neurology, and behavioral health.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.
