Claims Paralegal’s primary duties include claims management and administration for Essentia’s major lines of insurance, including medical professional liability, general liability, property, crime, cyber and fiduciary. In collaboration with Essentia’s risk managers, Essentia’s Office of General Counsel (“Legal Department”), Treasury and 3rd party claims administrator (for medical professional liability and general liability only), the Claims Paralegal will work to resolve claims and lawsuits to protect Essentia’s corporate assets. The Claims Paralegal will also be responsible for advising and supporting Essentia, its clinicians and staff throughout the claims and/or litigation process, including scheduling and supporting depositions, evaluating potential claims liability and damages, retaining and assisting external legal defense counsel, establishing timely and accurate expense and indemnity reserves, enrolling clinicians in state insured compensation funds, serving as an intermediary between Essentia and its insurance brokers and commercial insurance representatives, preparing and instituting legal holds, and managing the systematic tracking, processing and closing of all insurance claims involving Essentia. The Claims Paralegal will serve as Essentia’s corporate representative for all pretrial and trial activities, which may involve travel and in-person attendance for depositions, mediations, arbitrations and trials. The Claims Paralegal is also responsible for responding to claims and employment information inquiries as part of external credentialing requests. The Claims Paralegal will use claims data and information to assist Risk Management in improving the overall quality of care at Essentia and to develop relevant training and educational programs for Essentia, its clinicians and staff. As necessary, the Claims Paralegal may be asked to participate in cross-functional teams, standing work groups, councils and committees at Essentia.If necessary, this role also provides general paralegal support for a wide variety of duties involving Essentia’s Legal Department, including reviewing, analyzing and providing guidance and support to internal stakeholders on subpoenas, depositions, warrants and other court orders; performing legal, factual and investigative research; reviewing, analyzing and summarizing documents, coordinating document collection; and performing other general paralegal tasks or duties as directed by the Risk Management Director or the Legal Department.Work Experience:Minimum two years’ paralegal experience in health care or law office setting, preferably in general or professional liability litigation. Experience with risk management, claims handling, or insurance roles preferred but not required.Education Qualifications:
Graduate of a paralegal program or equivalent through experience and/or training
Licensure/Certification Qualifications:
No certification/licensure required.
