Essentia Health is seeking an Operating Room Equipment Technician to serve with the anesthesia department at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota. This employee works 32 hours weekly on day shifts. Schedules are 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, and 10:00 am to 6:30 pm. Every fourth weekend on-call is required. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a cooler environment, as this work occurs in the operating room. Surgery is fast-paced and you will be part of a small, close-knit team, so it is essential that you work well with others.Education Qualifications:
- Associate degree in health sciences, computers, or a related field is preferred.

What You'll Do:
The Operating Room Equipment Technician provides technical support for the operating room by setting up and operating specialty equipment, developing training programs for surgical staff, assuring availably of appropriate equipment for daily surgical schedule, and problem-solving as needed. Provides input to leadership in planning for an implementing new technology. Key responsibilities include:
Supports surgical staff by setting up, operating, and troubleshooting equipment as needed
Provides input and makes recommendations to leadership on new equipment purchases
Monitors maintenance, prevention, and repairs with Biomedical Services Department
Coordinates with surgical scheduling to ensure appropriate equipment is available and alerts nurse manager of potential conflicts
Works with nursing leadership to introduce new technologies by evaluating and planning the interface with surgical environment, training staff, developing protocols, visual and written tools and guides for equipment use that are readily accessible and user friendly
Collaborates with leadership to develop new instrument sets, disposables, tools, etc. associated with participates in cost-containment activities, including frequency of use of equipment and value to department assessments
Interfaces with vendors and company representatives to learn new equipment requirements and develop training programs

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:
- 1 year of experience working within the operating room is required; 5+ years of experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with OR technology as applied to patient care is required.
- Completion of Essentia's image guided surgical systems training is required within 6 months of hire.
