Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Responds to emergent and non-emergent calls in the prehospital setting.
- Provides medical support and care to patients at the scene of an emergency, during transport, and during interfacility transfers.
- Assesses patients by identifying needs, evaluating condition, and determining the most appropriate course of treatment within scope of practice.
- Provides advanced medical care and basic life support using appropriate medical equipment, devices, medications, and treatment modalities.
- Performs safe and effective interfacility transfers by monitoring patient condition, continuing appropriate care, and communicating with sending and receiving facilities.
- Safely operates and/or assists with ambulance transport while maintaining patient care and monitoring en route to the receiving facility.
- Communicates patient condition, treatment provided, and pertinent information to receiving medical personnel.
- Completes accurate and timely patient care documentation in accordance with applicable protocols, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains readiness of assigned unit, equipment, and supplies to ensure safe and effective prehospital response and transport.
Schedule: 4 days on, 4 off 1800 - 0600 (6pm - 6am)
Licensure/Certification Qualifications:
- State licensure/certification as a Paramedic or a Registered Nurse authorized to operate as a Paramedic in the appropriate state of practice.
- NIMS 100, 200, 700; Over 75, need to have medical permission
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification required at time of hire.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification required at time of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification (or must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as verified through appropriate licensing agency.
- Must meet the driving requirements and criteria acceptable to Essentia Health 's insurer.
- State Background check must provide clearance to work with vulnerable adults.
Driving Requirements:
- Must have 2 years drivers experience (MVR)
- Over 75 years of age require medical permission
- Drivers 21 years and older with Paramedic licensure, must meet MVR requirements
- Drivers 18-20 with Paramedic licensure, must meet MVR requirements of Young Driver Probation AND will be placed in Young Driver Probation (MVR every 6 months and completed probation form)
