Licensure/Certification Qualifications:
Job Summary: The Section Chair for Urgent Care and Walk-In Clinic works under the direction of the Division Chair for Primary Care to support leading our standard work in quality, patient experience, access, recruitment, and retention. The Section Chair inspires others to fulfill the mission and aspirational aims of Essentia Health. The section chair must do clinical work in the section, rotating between Detroit Lakes Urgent Care and Park Rapids HWY34 Walk-In departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality and Patient Experience
- Lead and monitor the Section’s performance in meeting clinical quality and safety standards. Meet or exceed Clinical Quality Dashboard Targets.
- Drive service excellence. Participate in investigating and resolving patient quality/safety/service-reported events.
- Collaborate with Physician and Professional Services regarding Physician or Advanced Practice Provider performance issues.
- Participate in Professional Practice Evaluation activities as needed or as appropriate to the Section Chair role.
- Develop an agenda and chair regularly scheduled Section meetings in collaboration with the Administrative Dyad Partner.
- Responsible for bi-directional communication between Division leadership and the Section.
- Encourages clinical excellence of the Section via educational activity, development of new services, and opportunities for teaching and research.
- Support developing and implementing sustainable clinical care pathways that promote the Quadruple Aim.
- Financial Sustainability
- Participate in Cost per Unit of Service action plans
- Monitor coding and documentation performance, collaborate with the Physician and Advanced Practice Advisors to lead practice improvement.
- Access
- Promote clinical care models that support access and efficiency.
- People Leadership: Recruitment and Retention
- Identify and develop emerging leaders
- Facilitate onboarding, feedback, and development conversations
- Mentor colleagues
- Support retention efforts, including monitoring employee engagement data
Required Qualifications:
- Essentia Health employed a Physician, Physician Assistant (PA), Nurse Practitioner (NP), in good standing.
- Be an active member of the medical staff before starting.

Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in formal or informal leadership roles.
Education
- Physician: MD, DO, MBBS, or DPM
- PA: Physician assistant master’s degree
- NP: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Licensure/Certification
- Physician: Current licensure in applicable state(s) and board certification in appropriate clinical specialty before start.
- PA: Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in applicable state(s) and board certification in appropriate clinical specialty before start.
- NP: Current licensure as Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s) and board certification in appropriate clinical specialty before start.

The Section Chair has the authority to fulfill the above responsibilities at Essentia Health.
