Job Description:
The Cardiology Technician Prepares patients aged pediatric through geriatric for cardiac stress test procedure to ensure a successful procedure is performed, including but not limited to: YOU provide patient with clear and concise information regarding procedure to be performed. YOU ensure informed consent for procedure is understood and signed by patient prior to procedure. YOU take and document baseline vital signs. YOU accurately documents patient history pertinent to procedure and ensures all required information is available at the time of the procedure. YOU establishe IV access using aseptic technique as required for procedure; Attaches ECG electrodes as required for procedure and ensures waveforms are artifact free. YOU function as an integral member of the cardiac stress test team during all variations of stress test protocols in order that testing procedures are performed effectively by the team. Activities include but are not limited to: Operating computerized stress test system demonstrating complete understanding of the various controls, messages, and warnings of the system; Instructing patients on proper techniques of beginning and ending exercise to facilitate a safe environment; Monitoring patients' hemodynamic/physiological status throughout procedure and accurately documents results; Recognizing normal hemodynamic/physiological values and communicates deviations to cardiologist or exercise physiologist throughout procedure; Initiating appropriate actions based on interpretation of hemodynamic/physiological changes; Performing medication calculations for pharmacologic stress testing and programs infusion pump to administer medication accurately and documents results. YOU document procedural data assuring all information is completely and accurately obtained; compiles procedure report for physician review. YOU facilitate a safe environment during nuclear cardiac stress tests to maintain radiation exposure to minimal levels. YOU Administer radioisotopes for nuclear image based stress testing following department of radiology and medical center protocol. YOU limit radiation exposure by utilizing principles of shielding, distance, and time. YOU monitor self and others within non-invasive lab for radiation safety ensuring all team members follow radiation safety guidelines. YOU perform and documents room surveys at specified times to monitor for radioactivity. YOU prepare patients ages pediatric through geriatric for ambulatory ECG and event monitoring, providing patients with clear and concise instructions regarding test to be performed. Accurately attaches ECG electrodes and connects monitoring equipment and verifies artifact-free tracing. Orients patient to event documentation requirements of 24 and 48 hour monitoring and event transmission for 30-day monitoring. Analyzes and provides technical interpretation of ECG tracings in order to provide other members of the team with information on which they must take action. Thoroughly scans and documents findings of 24 and 48 hour recordings. Recognizes normal EC G and identifies deviations and communicates life threatening arrythmias to cardiologists immediately. Documents analyzed EC G data, assuring all information is completely and accurately obtained; compiles procedure report for physician review. Receives 30-day event monitoring data from monitoring company; compiles report for physician review. Coordinates ambulatory monitoring services of outreach sites throughout region. Performs and documents Ankle/Brachial Index (ABI) screening for patients meeting criteria, per department procedure. Assists with record keeping responsibilities within the non-invasive cardiovascular lab to ensure accurate patient information for medical records and billing. Participates in activities to enhances professional growth and development.

Education Qualifications:

Completed course work in a medically related field such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, nursing, EMT, paramedic, respiratory care, or rhythm interpretation.


Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

Current certification (or within one month of hire) as American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
